The Kanesville Symphony Orchestra is a volunteer orchestra based in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was founded in September 2014 by Christine McCollum, Jim Kelley, William Hladik, and an Omaha based Irish Rock Band called Pog Mo Thon (pronounced pogue mahone). The KSO was engineered to be open to all musicians regardless of their musical background, experience, age, and even instrument. It was begun with the intention of keeping music alive in today's ever changing world and culture. It is open to all musicians, all ages, and all musical instruments.
Membership is free and open to anyone who wishes to join.
We believe that music is an integral part of life. The power of music helps to inspire the community, connect people from all different backgrounds, and helps the community to grow as a whole to further better life as we know it. With this new fast paced generation, people find it difficult to connect with the idea of a traditional symphony. We want to provide not only a fine art to the community of Council Bluffs, but to bring the symphony to the current popular culture. Our desire is to provide a diverse learning experience for children and adults that build and maintain the appreciation of music with all generations. Hence, our mission is to be a facilitator for an inspired public of all ages and all walks of life through live and groundbreaking musical performances.
